At Boo Greene our philosophy is a simple one... we know how precious
your babies are and we want you and your little ones to enjoy beautiful
products with a free conscience, knowing that those products are safe
and free from chemical nasties, and that the companies that make them
do their best to protect the environment and look after the people that
work for them. Many of our suppliers have been awarded Fair Trade
status or are certified organic, or both! Here's a little bit about
them... we think they're pretty cool.
ORGANICS FOR KIDS
Organics
for Kids produce beautiful, colourful and stylish clothes made from
certified organic cotton. Whenever it is available they use Fairtrade
cotton, and when it is not they are confident that the cotton has been
fairly traded (meaning that farmers are paid a reasonable and normally
premium price for their cotton, and are not exploited in the process).
Most of their range of clothes are made in England at a factory
approved to make their clothes by the Soil Association. A small part of
the collection is manufactured by a Fairtrade Foundation approved
factory in India.
LA QUEUE DU CHAT
Trés chic French styling for eco-conscious little ones everywhere. Soft, beautiful and ethical, this range of clothing is made from organic cotton grown without the use of pesticides or chemicals. The cotton is certified Ecocert Fair Trade and the production unit has obtained the EKO label certification, as well as Social Accountability 8000 certification.
LANKA KADE
Lanka
Kade produce beautiful, educational toys and gifts. Everything is
handmade in Sri Lanka, designed by their in house UK designer and fair
trade. The toys are CE marked and regularly tested to meet EN71 toy
standards including the paints. Lanka Kade does not use middlemen, nor
does it pay commissions thus enabling the suppliers to receive a fair
and full price for their products. Lanka Kade (UK) Ltd have been
approved by BAFTS (British Association of Fair Trade Shops) since 2001
as a fair trade supplier. Many of their products are made from
rubberwood sourced from exhausted rubber plantations that are replanted
every 10 – 15 years.
KENANA KNITTERS
Kenana Knitters
is a growing group of women in rural Kenya whose success is helping
build a future for their children. The group enables its workers to
directly benefit from their efforts. They produce a range of beautiful
and individual toys made using 100% natural wool, which has been home
spun, plant dyed and hand knitted with care. The emphasis is on
environmentally friendly and ecologically sustainable materials and
processes. The wool comes naturally in cream, browns and greys. Part
of the charm of the items is the many different shades, the same as
those of the multi-coloured flocks of local sheep. Colours are
obtained from dying the wool with traditional plants grown in the
group’s own gardens so not to impact on the environment.
EARTH FRIENDLY BABY
Earth
Friendly Baby’s ethos is to create high quality, natural products that
are healthy for babies, their friends and the planet - available at a
price that everyone can afford. All of the company’s products are
natural, which means that they use ingredients that are plant-derived
where possible and biodegradable.
Their products contain no
artificial colouring, synthetic fragrances, parabens or sodium
lauryl/laureth sulphate. None of the products are tested on animals,
and all products are suitable for vegetarians. All the products are
also suitable for vegans except for those who do not use beeswax which
is found in the creams.
SLUMBER ROO
Slumber-Roo make it their priority, both personally and professionally, to reduce the impact they have on the environment and protect children and the planet in which they grow.
They endeavour at all times to adopt socially responsible business practices including choosing mainly e-mail & Internet marketing, dispatching all orders using Eco Poly bags and recycling or reusing packaging & paper wherever possible. They predominately work with small companies and actively seek baby carriers and accessories designed by parents with the emphasis on practicality, comfort and value for money – products of the highest quality but equally, produced in ethical manufacturing environments that offer a fair wage and wherever possibly, use locally sourced materials.
